As part of her masterclass, Abigail Ahern, let us wander around her home. Her house is beautiful and has been much photographed. Check out Todd Selby’s site for some masterful shots.
Somewhat less professionally, I took some photographs of vignettes that appealed to me and portrayed some of her unique style.
- Layer, layer, layer!
- Use flowers liberally – even on staircases.
- A gallery wall of disparate items pulled together with the limited colour palette on the walls.
- What was that about reflecting something in a mirror?
- Be fun!
- Don’t be afraid of shadows and do use pops of colour!
- Paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls!
- A mirror should always be reflecting something – in this case the bookshelf wallpaper.
She has a great painting (of dogs found at a flea market) on her wall held up with a nail and a binder clip. Very insouciant chic. I don’t have a photo of it and I SO regret it.
You can see why AA inspires an almost cult-following around the world. I too have drank the Kool-Aid, and have gone back to ask for more.
