At the Chelsea Flower Show 2019, one of the best displays was at the Alitex stand. And, they weren’t even a show garden! On the other hand, Selina Lake style their greenhouse display and she is an expert in creating a covetable outdoor living ambience. I fell in love with this hobby greenhouse – it’s a small greenhouse design enough to fit in my London garden and would be the perfect garden hideaway. Thanks to Selina Lake’s expert styling, she has elevated greenhouse style to an art form.
From the Alitex National Trust range, this small greenhouse design is called Scotney, named after 14th century Scotney Castle in Kent. The Scotney is 2.6m by 4m (about 8 1/2 feet by 13 feet) in a basic greenhouse design. It’s one of the best hobby greenhouses that I’ve ever seen.
The basic greenhouse design is a rectangular base with two gable ends each with a door. With brick along the bottom, an aluminium frame and glass sides and roof, this hobby greenhouse is designed to look good as well as to last.
The small hobby greenhouse is just the right size to putter around with your plants as well as providing a small garden hideaway from the world. I’m a big fan of hobby greenhouses because they are good for multitasking – growing vegetables, keeping succulents out of the cold, a writing space etc. There are many famous authors like Roald Dahl or Virginia Woolf who wrote in a garden hideaway.
Surrounded by this delightful greenhouse style who wouldn’t be inspired?
