You’ve seen how Danish lifestyle company, House Doctor, styles their outdoor living space for their spring/summer 2017 catalogue. Now we look at inspirational table setting ideas by House Doctor.
Inspirational Table Setting Ideas
These four elements will help you get a simple yet stylish Danish look – organic shapes, a restricted colour palette, natural materials, and simple flower arrangements.
Organic Shapes
These simple settings choose organic shapes that are casual and evocative of nature. You can see the idea of bringing the outdoors inside is still going strong.
Restricted Colour Palette
This idea carries through with the colour palette. There are lots of warm colours using gold and brass and green.
The Use of Natural Materials
There’s also the use of lots of natural materials – glass, wood, and pottery. It’s a Scandinavian celebration of the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi – the imperfectly perfect. Effortless chic that looks pulled together because of the limited colour palette.
Simple Flower Arrangements
I also love the simple flower arrangements that look like wildflowers picked freshly from a walk in the woods. There is nothing ornate or too stylised about the flower arrangements.
Wait …. let me pull out my soapbox.
I have never bought a bouquet from a supermarket no matter how attractive and colorful they look since I saw a news segment of how these cheap flowers are grown in flower farms in Africa. Although there are more organic flower farms trying to be fair trade in the industry, many of the African flower farms that supply cut flowers to the West exploit their workers. Will that bunch of flowers bring you joy once you know they are grown on the exploitation of other people?
Rant over.
Anyway, just pick a couple of sprigs of wildflowers and go with the Danish approach of casual chic.
