When you think of Lyme Regis Accommodation your first thought would be of old English-style thatched roof houses or farmhouses. Many Lyme Regis cottages and indeed many cottages to rent in Dorset would fit this description. We have stayed several times with friends at their weekend home which is a historic coaching inn full of character (i.e. a thatched roof, slightly tilted floors and blazing Aga in the kitchen) in nearby Charmouth.
Contemporary Luxury at Montana
Not all cottages to rent in Dorset fall into this stereotype though. The ultra-modern house named Montana, available through Unique Home Stays, provides luxury Lyme Regis accommodation without any of the attendant historic fussiness. Unlike Airbnb and similar owner-operated sites, Unique Home Stays is a rental agency which acts as an intermediary between the home owner and the renter.
You can rent the houses individually or together, accommodating either 4 or 8 guests, respectively. Many people visit Lyme Regis with groups of friends or family so this option is perfect. Having two separate yet commingled spaces allows people enough room to get along amicably!
Both internally and externally, Montana has strong, lean and clean lines. You will not find yourself tripping over the usually seaside shabby chic decor. Instead it is full of high-end furnishings with a modern European flair. Nonetheless, the house is warm and welcoming for families as well as dogs. You may want to keep an eye on your dog though because there is no perimeter fencing around the home.
Nestled into its own acre of forested grounds, Montana offers a clean and simple Scandinavian sensibility set between two buildings. The houses are clad in Western Red Cedar and blessed with an abundance of windows which blurs the boundary between inside and outside.
Whether it’s basking in the sunshine on the deck or watching the rain fall during an inevitable English downpour, you will feel connected with nature. After all, isn’t that why people want cottages to rent in Dorset?
Food and Fun in Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is great for outdoor adventure. There are plenty of walking and cycling routes as well as a long coastline to explore. Thanks to its extensive fossil remains, the coastline is called the Jurassic Coast and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Lyme Regis and the surrounding areas is also a foodie’s delight with running the gamut from the ever-popular English seaside meal of fish and chips to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s gastronomic empire at River Cottage.
