Are you looking for mint green bedroom ideas? My daughter wanted a sparkly room but she also loved the lighter shades of greens and blues. Here’s how I used Farrow and Ball Teresas Green together with Farrow and Ball Dimity to coordinated with her gold upholstered headboard. We created a bedroom reminiscent of the soft greens and gold that you find on the beach holidays that she loves.
Teen Beds
After a futile search for teen beds that would suit my daughter, I gave up and just created one with the help of French luxury furniture designers, Roche Bobois. It’s a faded creamy gold padded headboard with a geometric print that she loves.
The bed frame and mattress are from London bed manufacturers, Button and Sprung. Large enough to fit her comfortably as well as her stuffed animals, it’s a king size in England (and what would be a queen size in the USA). The bed frame is a storage divan which is upholstered in a mint green fabric.
I feel we spent so much time in our beds that a good bed is essential. I would think is especially true in the teenage years when their bedroom is where most kids retreat. Moreover, their bodies (and spines) are developing and so good back support will only be a plus during these years.
Button and Sprung have 9 different types of mattresses of increasing quality and firmness. We went with a upper-midlevel mattress that my daughter describes as “sleeping on cotton candy”.
We have decorated the room with furnishings from Zara Home. The cushions from Zara Home add personality and the Zara home sheets are part of the light gold colour scheme. There’s also a taupe/gold blanket that covers the foot of her bed.
Light Mint Green Paint
The next step was trying to coordinate light mint green paint with her teen bed. She’s always had a Farrow and Ball bedroom (just like the rest of the house).
I went through all the options for a Farrow and Ball green bedroom (and tried out all the Farrow and Ball green tester pots!). The Farrow and Ball Teresa Green was the clear winner for our light mint green paint color.
Farrow and Ball Dimity
After trying out the Farrow and Ball Teresa’s Green on her walls, my daughter decided she did not want a full Farrow and Ball green bedroom. She wanted the light mint green paint as an accent wall behind her bed.
The rest of the two walls were given over to Farrow and Ball Dimity, a light, understated taupe which went perfectly with the taupey cream in the gold upholstered headboard. Dimity Farrow and Ball is described as the color that used to make the cotton for ladies’ bustles. Very evocative!
The fourth wall is totally given over to built-in cupboards and shelves covered in a grey washed oak. The floor is likewise a grey-washed oak.
Curtains For Mint Green Walls
Obviously in London, we need window coverings because you really don’t want people peering into your home. Luckily, the German prefab house comes with electronic metal shutters that give the room total light blackout and privacy. That’s actually not much use during the day!
In the search for luxury sheer curtains which would give privacy during the day, I came across Zara home curtains. Zara Home curtains had these light gold sheer curtains which were perfect. Moreover, the gold sheer curtains went perfectly as accent curtains for mint green walls.
Now although we have repainted the wall with the windows to be Farrow and Ball Dimity, the gold sheer curtains and the light color seem to blend seamlessly. The glitter sheer curtains add a bit of sparkle to the wall without shouting their presence.
Modern Glam Bedroom
Why is it so difficult to find teen girl bedroom furniture? I found so many teen beds not only shoddily made but also did not go above a double size. And, don’t even get me started with the other choices of teen girl bedroom furniture. I don’t know why stores think everything needs to be painted white to signify girl furniture either!
We have stuck with my daughter’s Ikea furniture for now for lack of better choices. The Kallax sideboard with the Drona basket inserts store all of her clutter nearly away.
Instead of using teen girl bedroom furniture and accessories, we just went with regular contemporary stores that I would normally use. For example, the bedside desk lamp is from Graham and Green and the rose gold Daschund piggy bank is from Atelier Abigail Ahern.
