Presented as a lifestyle destination, Petersham Covent Garden ticks all the boxes for aspirational aesthetic urban living. People now accept that even if you live in an urban environment, you can nurture your love of greenery – whether indoors or outdoors, and no matter the size of your space. Plants (and their nurture) are good for your home environment cleaning out toxins and connecting you to nature in an increasingly digital world.
Petersham Covent Garden
As part of the venture which includes two restaurants, a courtyard and shopping, Petersham Covent Garden is a one-stop destination for an elegant break from central London. Located in a Grade II listed building, the interiors are elegance personified but without being stuffy.
The original Petersham which started in 2004 is a mecca for fine living but is located out in Richmond – beautiful but a bit of a trek from central London.
The story goes that Mick Jagger told the Boglione family that there was a mansion up for sale in Richmond which is how they stumbled upon a diamond in the rough. Not surprising since the late David Bowie was a godfather to one of the children. It’s that sort of moneyed, artsy London crowd.
Luckily for us, Petersham Gardens is in central London as of the summer of 2018. Set in spacious 16,000 s.f. surroundings around the aptly named Floral Court.
Petersham Nurseries Shop
An interiors and garden boutique, the Petersham Nurseries Shop, it’s full of artfully curated antiques, ceramics and glassware. It’s all about good food, gardening and fine living – all in a beautiful setting, naturally.
The Petersham Nurseries Shop is a lifestyle shop – as such it is ever aspirational and Instagram ready. The lifestyle isn’t particularly British though – the family that owns Petersham Covent Garden is Australian and Italian have lived all over the world.
With lots of French antique furniture and smaller pieces from Parisian ceramicist and candlemaker, Astier de Villatte (whose work can also be found at Liberty London and ABC Home and Carpet in New York), the Petersham Nurseries Shop has an international flair that transcends easy definition.
You can see Petersham itself becoming a global lifestyle brand, can’t you? The owners of the Petersham Nurseries Shop definitely have the style, the skill and the connections to make it happen.
Covent Garden Florist
For effortless chic, Petersham Covent Garden is THE place to be your Covent Garden florist. No bunches of chrysanthemums here – but locally sourced flowers and plants that will emphasise your good taste.
A flower shop … Covent Garden… really? Yes, it’s actually a throwback to many a Covent Garden florist in the area – as you may remember from George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion (and later My Fair Lady).
