The Betsy Hotel Miami has been the darling of hip hotel lovers in Miami Beach since its renovation in 2009 having won accolades for being the best beach hotel South Beach has to offer from Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler. The Betsy South Beach is not only a design hotel lover’s dream, but also family-friendly with multiple pools and a beach-side service. Between the great service staff and the dog mascot, you will be charmed by Betsy Hotel Miami whether you are visiting Miami for one day or one week.
Betsy South Beach Architecture
Betsy Hotel South Beach was originally two buildings built by famous Miami architects – the 1938 Art Deco Carlton Hotel designed by Henry Hohauser and the 1941 Florida Georgian building designed by Lawrence Murray Dixon.
Betsy South Beach is actually two buildings connected by a piece of modern art called The Orb. One building is furnished in a colonial manner (presumably European colonial) and the other building is the Art Deco you would expect in Miami.
The name above the Atlantic Drive entrance still says Betsy Ross Hotel, an appropriately patriotic name for a post-war hotel. Troops were even based here during World War 2.
There are entrances in both buildings although the main entrance is the colonial building building on Atlantic Avenue. The Art Deco building has its entrance on Collins Avenue.
Spread across the two buildings, you don’t realise that the Betsy Hotel Miami is actually quite large. The Betsy South Beach has 130 rooms (including 35 suites), 4 restaurants, 2 pools, a fitness center and a wellness spa.
For those of you who think Miami is a hedonist wasteland devoid of intellectuals, you will find solace at The Betsy South Beach. There is a poetry rail on the Art Deco side that pays homage to 12 poets who have celebrated Miami in writing. The Betsy Miami has the owner’s art sprinkled throughout the building. There is even an artist in residence program at the Betsy Miami Hotel.
